Billionaires and Mega-Corporations Behind Immense Land Grab in Africa
20+ African countries are selling or leasing land for intensive agriculture on a shocking scale in what may be the greatest change of ownership since the colonial era. (...) An Observer investigation estimates that up to 125 million acres of land -- an area more than double the size of the UK -- has been acquired in the last few years or is in the process of being negotiated by governments and wealthy investors working with state subsidies. The land rush, which is still accelerating, has been triggered by the worldwide food shortages which followed the sharp oil price rises in 2008, growing water shortages and the European Union's insistence that 10% of all transport fuel must come from plant-based biofuels by 2015.In many areas the deals have led to evictions, civil unrest and complaints of "land grabbing". (...) "The foreign companies are arriving in large numbers, depriving people of land they have used for centuries. There is no consultation with the indigenous population. The deals are done secretly. The only thing the local people see is people coming with lots of tractors to invade their lands. "All the land round my family village of Illia has been taken over and is being cleared. People now have to work for an Indian company. Their land has been compulsorily taken and they have been given no compensation. People cannot believe what is happening. Thousands of people will be affected and people will go hungry." It is not known if the acquisitions will improve or worsen food security in Africa, or if they will stimulate separatist conflicts, but a major World Bank report due to be published this month is expected to warn of both the potential benefits and the immense dangers they represent to people and nature. Leading the rush are international agribusinesses, investment banks, hedge funds, commodity traders, sovereign wealth funds as well as UK pension funds, foundations and individuals attracted by some of the world's cheapest land. Together they are scouring Sudan, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, Ethiopia, Congo, Zambia, Uganda, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Mali, Sierra Leone, Ghana and elsewhere.

How China's taking over Africa, and why the West should be VERY worried
(
(...) With little fanfare, a staggering 750,000 Chinese have settled in Africa over the past decade. More are on the way.The strategy has been carefully devised by officials in Beijing, where one expert has estimated that China will eventually need to send 300 million people to Africa to solve the problems of over-population and pollution. The plans appear on track. Across Africa, the red flag of China is flying. Lucrative deals are being struck to buy its commodities - oil, platinum, gold and minerals. New embassies and air routes are opening up. The continent's new Chinese elite can be seen everywhere, shopping at their own expensive boutiques, driving Mercedes and BMW limousines, sending their children to exclusive private schools. The pot-holed roads are cluttered with Chinese buses, taking people to markets filled with cheap Chinese goods. More than a thousand miles of new Chinese railroads are crisscrossing the continent, carrying billions of tons of illegally-logged timber, diamonds and gold. The trains are linked to ports dotted around the coast, waiting to carry the goods back to

  • Plan Africa
Plan Africa is a new entity established to represent the dire need for sustainable design and livelihoods for Africa. Our long term goals are food security and strong regional economies on the continent. One of the ways in which we aim to achieve this is through this website and database detailing organic farming and permaculture projects; which is easily accessible for information or contacts, for people to ask for help, or simply to connect with other like-minded people and organisations. We are also attempting to create and map the continent’s sustainable development and farming projects in order to create a comprehensive geographical picture that details each project found in an area and its aims, objectives, production, methodologies and available resources. It aims to allow people working in sustainable development and livelihoods opportunities to be aware of other initiatives and to provide assistance and support to each other and to enable us to identify what resources projects need in order to achieve our dream of a sustainable and abundant Africa.

Controversial

  • African Holocaust Killing with kindness - There's lot of expressed concern on the part of the US, the UN and WHO about AIDS in Africa. Oddly, other much more serious diseases and environmental problems in Africa are being ignored. The solution to the "AIDS problem" in Africa?Lots of immuno-suppressive drugs and the replacing of breast-feeding with infant formula. One researcher called the west's anti-AIDS program in Africa "diabolical." This video explains why. Bush & Friends are experts at combining government "humanitarianism" and genocide.

  • Deconstructing the Myth of AIDS - Gary NullIn 1984 we were told that HIV was the cause of AIDS. In his provocative documentary film, "Deconstructing the Myth of AIDS," Gary Null, Ph.D., challenges virtually every statement ever made by the American medical industrial complex on the virus - including those of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute for Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While presenting the findings of Nobel Prize-winning scientists and leading virologists, the film exposes the political maneuvering, conspiracies and cover-ups that have provided obstacles to the study of this human catastrophe from the start. For example, there are experts who believe that AIDS is the result of multiple factors, including drug use, stress and nutritional deficiency, but that government agencies made a politically strategic decision to de-emphasize these hypotheses and thus discourage certain researchers and their funding. Meanwhile, AZT, an infamously failed treatment for cancer, and now the primary FDA-approved approach to treating AIDS, is highly toxic and can produce the very symptoms of the illness it is prescribed to treat. "Deconstructing the Myth of AIDS" goes beyond medicine and science to question the very foundation of our reliance on government bureaucracies where it concerns matters of life and death.
